Fishing in the Lower Florida Keys

Capt. Tim Carlile offers flats fishing charters for up to two anglers departing from the Sugarloaf Marina. Half day and 3/4 day charters are offered. December and January can be action packed fishing months in the Lower Keys. On warmer days we may see bonefish, permit and even tarpon. On the cooler days the barracuda, sharks, jacks, ladyfish and seatrout are going to offer the most action. Snapper fishing can be excellent in the winter because the fish move into shallow water that is in close proximity to the flats.

Tarpon Season

Tarpon normally run predominantly in the spring months in the Keys. They can be found on the flats as early as January and as late as November depending on the temperature of the water. Please check with Capt. Tim for any open dates during the upcoming peak tarpon season in March, April, May and June. July can also be great for tarpon.

Bonefish & Permit

Bonefishing in the Lower Keys can be plentiful. The flats and backcountry islands offer the perfect environment for bonefish and permit. Just a short ride from Sugarloaf Key Marina there are many beautiful sand flats where bonefish and permit roam.
